The National Parks Service, Cumberland Island, St. Marys, Georgia has recently taken delivery of a 66' x 20' Utility Landing Craft. This vessel was bid through their contracting office in Atlanta, GA and awarded to Island Boats for construction. The vessel is a shallow vee monohull with conventional propeller drives in pocket tunnels to reduce operating draft. The vessel utilizes Caterpillar main propulsion diesel engines through Twin Disc vee drive units.

Noteworthy features of the vessel are a 10' wide bow door designed to take a 50kip load. The bow door is heavily constructed and operated via a hydraulic power unit powering two bow winches with local/remote control. The vessel hull structure of the craft is to ABS rules for High Speed Craft and systems to USCG SubChapter T.

The vessel will be used to transport equipment and personnel across a 7-mile route from the mainland at St. Marys to different developed and undeveloped landings on Cumberland Island.

The vessel also features a 12kw Onan diesel generator and HVAC in the lower control station.

The cargo deck of the vessel measures 43 feet by 20 feet. The vessel underwent an inclining stability test to USCG standards and the maximum allowable safe loading of 30 ton was established.
