Island Boats is a family owned business located in the heart of "Cajun Country" in South Louisiana. We are very proud of the aluminum boat-building heritage developed in our area since the inception of the aluminum boat-building industry. The combination of this rich heritage and knowledge of aluminum boat building with modern design and construction practices provides for efficient, quality boatbuilding. We gladly give tours of our facility to potential customers and are always ready to use our strengths to compete with any yard in the world.
We
have recently moved to a new facility along Bayou Teche in New Iberia, Louisiana.
This new facility is situated on 6.5 acres and has approximately 30,000 square
feet of covered and enclosed manufacturing shops plus a 5,000 square foot paint
shop. All of these shops have high bay clearances and the main fab shop is equipped
with overhead cranes. We team with a well developed local market of aluminum
suppliers, plasma cutters, and designers. We integrate our fabricators, welders
and mechanics with local electrical, HVAC, painting, interior finish and tubing
subcontractors to provide high quality, competitive products. Future expansions
slated for the coming year include a 5,000 square foot small boat fabrication
shop.

Although we gain tremendous benefits from our past, we are always looking toward the future. President/owner Miles Thomas is a licensed professional engineer in Civil Engineering from Louisiana State University and has continually pushed the expertise level of our business. Our small yard routinely utilizes the same technology that you will find in any progressive yard in any part of the world. This includes everything from 3-D hull modeling, computer analysis of hull structure, wake and power analysis to precutting of frames, longitudinals and plating. We welcome the opportunity to compete with builders worldwide in technology and craftsmanship.
We
have delivered vessels to the South Pacific, both Coasts of the United States
and the Carribean. We continually look toward improving our manufacturing process
to stay competitive in our domestic and international markets. As such, we construct
boats with varying classifications including the United States Coast Guard,
American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and Lloyd's Register.
As a
testament
to our commitment to quality, we are undertaking a five year plan of becoming
DNV ISO 9001 certified.
We pride ourselves on what we think are
the three basic essentials of a successful vessel: an excellent design, clean
and well thought out systems, and high quality aluminum construction. We have
built boats for oilfield operators, major cruise ship lines, the U.S. Government
and private industry. Our biggest asset is offering a high quality product with
excellent service and a competitive price.
